Why is it, especially in the most popular sci-fi/fantasy stories, that we imagine other potential sentient beings in the image of humanity?; i.e. elves are supposedly elegant and beautiful two-legged creatures with similar appearance to humans, dwarves are short and greedy two-legged creatures with similar appearance to humans, aliens in sci-fi stories have eyes, can hear, do things humans are capable of, etc.... ? tl;dr: Why do we feel the need to humanize non-human things? |
